Now is the time to check your furnace filter and make sure it has been changed this month and check it on a regular basis. A dirty filter will cause reduced airflow coming into your blower compartment from the return air duct, and sometimes cause your furnace to operate erratically, while cycling on the limit control. This will also reduce the amount of sensible heat you will feel coming out of the ducts in each room and reduce overall efficiency of the system. You may consider installing an Aprilaire  Media filter. This will provide the filtration you need while easing the service interval of filter change outs.

Also, you can now set up the humidifier for winter operation. As the outdoor temperature begins to fall and the climate inside your home gets drier, your central humidifier can adjust for this. A good setpoint is between 40 and 45% relative humidity. Make sure that the water supply to the humidifier is on, open the damper or change it from the summer mode to the winter mode, and be sure that the filter pad is clean and ready to perform during the heating season. You can refresh your humidifier filter pad by soaking it in a bucket of white vinegar and water overnight, and then rinse it out in the laundry tub. You will be able to extend the pad life by doing this once or twice a season. Remember to call T.J.Air for new filter and pad replacements or any service requirements you would need during the heating season.

Now is the time to consider a programmable thermostat in order to take advantage of energy savings when you are out of the house or while you are sleeping.
